Label: Domino USA
Catalog#: DOMUS11CD
Format: CD
Country: US
Released: 05 Nov 2002
Genre: Electronic
Style: Electro, Downtempo, Experimental
Notes: US release with 3 bonus tracks. Original LP released on Leaf Recordings in 2001. In 2004 a lawsuit forced Dan Snaith to stop using the name Manitoba, and he has since released under the monicker Caribou. A lot of people have made comparisons between Manitoba/Caribou and Boards of Canada, but aside from both groups producing melodic idm I can't see much in the way of real similarities. Manitoba was ahead of the curve on the whole guitar-based idm thing tho.. anyways, this post looks nasty because Vox keeps screwing up my uploads.. ugh.
Label: Warp Records
Catalog#: WAP 144 CD
Format: CD, EP
Country: UK
Released: 17 Nov 2000
Genre: Electronic
Style: IDM, Ambient
Notes: Sadly, I do not own this on vinyl, so this is from the CD release. Images ripped from Discogs, per the usual. Converted from my FLACs this morning just for you, I hope you listen and enjoy. As others have said, this release is often over-looked among BoC's catalogue, and Amo Bishop Roden is really one of their best tracks. But then again, Zoetrope is one of their worst too... :/
A great deal of conjecture has been tossed about in relation to this album's samples and subject matter. References to David Koresh and the Branch Davidians are imbedded throughout this work, including a picture of Koresh in the inlay; and the title itself is part of the Davidian linguistic ("Picture yourself in a beautiful place out in the country."). I am left to wonder about the "beauty" of Koresh's place out in the country, however, given all the CNN-laced memories of the events that happened on that little ranch in Waco, Texas.
