Notes: Carlos "Soul" Slinger, hailing from New York, was the first North American producer with a jungle release. This disc is an old favorite of mine, and it turned my head and ears in a whole bunch of different ways early on in my discovery of jungle music (and helped me feel a little closer to the music too, coming from alot closer to home than the UK). What I find interesting here, aside from the obvious social commentary (the way it blends to together afro-carribean/brazillian rhythms with pre-millennial social tensions and a back-to-africa spirituality with the evolving jungle sound is still amazing to me), is that this disc really stands apart from all of the UK-originating jungle sounds of the day and at the same time is a complete album; not just a bunch of 12"s original constructed to be mixxed slapped together on a disc.. A great variance of beats and ideas to be found here, and I do hope you'll give it a real listen (excuse the 320cbr, it's an old rip).. Masterplan, in particular, has always struck me as a brilliant track..
